Q: Volvo V70 - what components trigger the orange engine service light?
The orange "Engine Service Required" light lights up occassionally on my Volvo V70 T5 dashboard (if it goes red it's really serious!!). Last time it was low coolant due to engine work, but just below min on the expansion bottle so no danger. It's something simple again but I can't find which. Does anyone know the complete list of things which trigger it so I can check one by one?

Q: How reliable is the Volvo V70 geartronic gearbox?
How reliable is the Volvo V70 geartronic gearbox? My parents are thinking of buying a second hand one no older than 04 and wanted another automatic. However, they are concerned that the gearbox might go after a while as the auto box went on their 740GL after only 5 years from new....

A: The V70 has a Asian Warner transmission in it. That trans has been very reliable. 2001 and early 2002 had a problem due to software but that can be fixed with software if it hasn't been already. just put it in reverse the drive and feel for two bumps like it engaged drive twice. Also put in drive and wait and feel if it goes in neutral after three seconds. that's normal but the software upgrade will get rid of it. All things considered it is a great transmission.

Q: Need instruction to program Volvo keyless remote of 98 V70?
I bought an additional keyless remote unit for 98 Volvo V70, and looking for the instruction to program it by myself. Any help would be appreciated.

A: REPROGRAMMING TRANSMITTERS Both transmitter key codes are preprogrammed in the receiver module when the car is supplied, but can be reprogrammed if necessary, e.g. if a new transmitter is used. When reprogramming the receiver, it is important to enter each unique key code. The receiver's memory can hold up to three transmitter codes. Before starting reprogramming, check that the remote control transmitter concerned uses the same frequency as the receiver. The receiver module is marked with a letter as shown in the illustration. The transmitter has a P/N engraved on the underside. Note: New frequencies may be introduced later. Receiver module marking Transmitter P/N A (9148647) 9148646 C (9128710) 9128709 H (9128928) 9128927 The procedure for reprogramming the receiver module is as follows: Turn the ignition key to position I or II five times in 10 seconds and leave the ignition on after the fifth time. Within 30 seconds, press either the LOCK or UNLOCK button on the transmitter once. All transmitters must be reprogrammed within 30 seconds. Switch ignition off. Check that each transmitter is working. Note: If neither the LOCK or UNLOCK button is pressed within 30 seconds, no reprogramming will take place and the receiver module will retain the previous key codes. It is not easy, good luck! may take a few tries!!!!!

Q: Removing the stock radio from a 1999 volvo v70 xc?
The radio is not working at all, no lights or indication of anything functioning. The car is a 1999 volvo v70 xc. Does anyone know how to remove the stock radio or what the problem may be? Any links to tutorials would also be greatly appreciated (I haven't found any though). Thanks!!

A: If it is the standard radio, there are two small slots on each side of the radio. Inside those slots are little bars that you can push inward with something like a small screwdriver. Once you push those in, they will pop out. Pull on them and the radio slides right out.

Q: How to add an aftermarket CAR RADIO to my 1998 VOLVO V70?
The stock radio is like twice the height of the aftermarket standard size. Does this matter? How do I make it fit? 1998 volvo v70. here is a pic: http://www.tss-radio.com/images/75139-196s70.jpg

A: sure not a prob. radio's are single din or double din=double sized radio, like volvo,,, a few things U gotta get 1st a wire harness= it is a harness that connects to the cars harness/w wires of specific colors & these wires go to any and all after market radios 2nd U need a housing/radio harness---for some cars it helps to fill in the space leftover -- if using a single din radio, the harness is needed and it comes/w a small pocket to fill that void under the radio & store cd's or whatever, but U can get a double din radio & it will fill the whole space & a radio harness isn't needed,,,

Q: My Volvo v70 classic (1997) stereo will not work. When switched on the screen is reading off?
Unlike the one in my 850, which when coded wrong 3 times will go to off. The 850 stereo will reset itself after 20 mins or so to let the code be re-entered. My V70 stereo will not reset it is continuosly reading off so I can not enter my code. The car did sit idle with a flat battery for over a year. How can I fix this so the code can be entered?

A: If u have the correct radio code and the display says OFF then turn the key to the accessory position for at least two hours. The CODE on the screen should display. If the code fails the second time then stop.U might have the wrong code for that radio.U need the serial number off the radio itself.Pull the radio out by quickly pushing the two tabs on the side of the radio and pull it out just enough to see the sticker.Write down or take a clear picture of all visible numbers.Take this information to a Volvo shop or dealer and be sure to have a pictured id and car registration to prove it's your car.Ask for radio code with all info. mentioned.

Q: How do I adjust the headlights on a 2001 Volvo V70 Cross Country?
I just changed both headlights and need to adjust them. How do I do it? The manual gives you the typical "you have to bring it into the dealership and have the dealership rape you monitarily" schpeel. Can anyone help?

A: Mine was a pain to change but didn't need any adjustment. Try to ask this question on Matthew'svolvosite.com

One of the wheel lugbolt was screwed up so now the wheel is hold by four lugbolts. Need to change the Wheel Hub Assembly. When I took off the caliper found the problem: how to take off the holding bolts between axle and wheel hub? the bolts shadowed by the axle wrapper. Who has the experience to do this by himself? Q: Do you think a 2004 Volvo V70 is a good car?
I have found a 04 Volvo V70, 39K miles it is the turbo. It is a certified used car which means it will be under warranty until 01/10 or 100K miles. Price is about $18,000 from the dealer.Does anyone have first hand knowledge of what the MPG city is? (I know the stats, I am just looking for some actual numbers from people who have driven them)

A: You are asking for trouble with these Swedish Fords. Try a different make

Q: Where do I connect the trailer wiring harness for a 01 Volvo V70 XC?
Is it the plug by the spare tire?

A: You can buy a trailer harness from Volvo but you are better off with a non-OEM unit that will have the standard 4 wire light trailer hook up. IPD has them in stock. http://www.ipdusa.com/Volvo-V70-2001-2007/Exterior/Trailer-Hitches/p-127-386-1428/ Most auto stores should have them also if you want to get it local, and of course Volvo will have the 5 wire OEM hook up.

Q: How to replace clutch on Volvo V70 R, 2004?
My volvo R has 68K and already having clutch problems. Does any one have a tip or the method to replace it? Labor for the clutch is way too expensive here in Texas. So my cuz and I will tackle it down....!

A: If you have a way of hanging the engine in the car it's not too hard. Someone on Answers claimed to drop the whole engine and trans unit in one piece and that it was faster than just dropping the trans. I have not had the opportunity to try that yet.(I will) The only other advise I can give you is that Volvo's are hard on throw out bearing forks and fulcrum points. I would replace them at the same time.($100) Don't forget the rear main seal and this is a great time to change the gear oil.
