Q: Does anyone still know about the Mazda rx8?
I saw one the other day in a used lot, and it is in great condition and looks to be a real steal, but I was told it was high maintenance. I looked it up, and it says it has a rotary engine, and I heard something about some sort of bulbs in the engine, which require more finesse to take care of. Does anyone know anything about this, cause I'm not car savvy, I'm just drive savvy. I really want it, cause it was a 6 speed manual transmission.
A: Yeah, it is completely different to take care of from other cars.
It requires different oil. It needs to be revved higher when driven.
It must be driven every day to stay in shape.
The Manual tranmission is more reliable because you can rev higher, which is good for rotary engines but bad on gas mileage.
It burns oil quickly and fits less oil in the engine. It does NOT use synthetic oil like all sportscars and luxury cars.
It requires premium gas.
But I have driven the car with the 6 speed. It is a very nice car. Fun to drive.
Q: Anyone got a Mazda RX8 and know about engine flooding?
I have an RX8 which I absolutely love, only had it a couple of months but on websites it says main fault is 'engine flooding', and never switch it off after short journeys. I am beginning to worry, and if I ever have to move my car off the drive because I'm parked behind my husband I take it for a little drive instead of just moving it onto the road. Am I worrying un-necessarily?
A: Yes, rotary engines are prone to flooding.
If your RX8 has had the latest updates flashed to its ECU the problem is minimized. Still, just follow the simple rule of not shutting it down cold. If you have to move the car just let it run a couple minutes.
Also, Mazda wrote in the owners manual that if you plan to shutdown cold, rev the engine up to around 3000 rpm and hold it there for 5-10 seconds then shut down.
Should the engine ever flood you can sometimes clear it yourself. Push the gas pedal to the floor (which actually tells the ECU to supply NO gas at startup) and try cranking the engine for 10-20 seconds. This should expel the excess gas. Then try starting normally.
Q: I have a Mazda RX8, the tail lights dont work while normal driving, but work when i brake.?
All the other lights work. Could it be a fuse or is it something electrical?
Thanks for the help
A: could be about fuse has blown. If not. Maybe it needs new bulb.
Q: What would i need to add an amp and subs to a factory (not bose) 04 Mazda RX8 system?
i will be putting a 10" pioneer premier subwoofer with 350W RMS and a mono amplifier with the same wattage. also thinking about buying the MTX RE-Q.
A: You would need a line driver. It will tap the output for speakers to grab signal for rca's to run to your amp. You can get one at one of your local audio shops. And of course and amp wiring kit for power and ground. You will also have to go to the fusebox or the radio for a switched 12v wire to turn the amp on and off with the ignition. usually you can grab for remote behind the radio or at the ignition harness. Just be sure to fuse this wire.
Q: how do i find radio channels on an imported mazda rx8?
I recently purchased an rx8 which had been imported a year ago the car is great but I can only get radio 1 I have tried auto scan and manual tuning but the fm frequency only goes from 77.0 to 99.9 and my favourite Heart fm is at 100.7!! I am assuming it has something to do with the car being originally for the japanese market but I'm hoping someone out there has a clever idea that means I can fix it!! Please!!
A: http://www.bridgwater-electronics.co.uk/p_44_Radio+Band+Expander.php
this is what you need due to Japan using lower frequencies
all i get on mine is radio 2.
Q: I need to add oil to power steering wheel in mazda rx8
I need to add power steering oil in my mazda rx8 and i have no clue where the tube is located. Can some tell me or give me links to website where they have a chart.
I know i need oil because i have been told by guys and also when i reverse the wheel makes lots of noise beacuse its so dry there
A: .... ill ask you something, how did you know the power steering pump need more oil when you don't even know where is located?
the only way to know if the pump need more oil is looking at the reservoir tank, and if you don't know where is it how you know it need oil?
Q: in my MAZDA RX8 i have the base DVD Navigation can i play videos on it?
ive tried everythign and it wont work...can u explain how to get it to play music videos and movies on the screen of my navigation it does have the DVD ROM in the back. HELP!
A: In stock form you can't. There may be some modification out there that lets you, but I haven't heard of it. Try reading the owners manual before posting simple questions.
Q: How to get my Mazda RX8 to warm up quickly?
I've taken my car to the shop numerous times in regards to the lack of heat. They say it's so hot it melts their fingers but i swear every morning i make the conscious effort to dress warmly because the luke-warm air coming from the vents isn't enough to keep me even slightly insulated.
Am i setting dials wrong or something to that effect? (i.e. AC button off, inside air circulation button on)
A: wake up early girl ! !
it takes only 6 - 10 mins for the heater get enough hot to make you confortable
by the way your example of bottom configuration is wrong, compress air has more air molecules so.. that make the compress air can hold more hot than regular flowing air
ac on with circulation on
Q: Water in my mazda rx8 tail light?
would anyone happen to know where i could find the seal for the inside of a mazda rx8 tail light. water keeps getting in it and i took it apart to see what was wrong and i think the seal on the outside and the inside is worn down. and i want to replace it before it causes and electrical problems, any suggesstions?
A: Yep...replace it....once it starts leaking it won't stop.....check on line or your local junk yard for a used replacement. Lots of aftermarket stuff on the Internet.
Q: Are there more problems with the 2004 Mazda rx8, then say an 05 or 06?
I am still debating on whether to get one or not and I see that they have some problems. I am wondering what the possibility of the motor crashing is (permitting it is well taken care of.) Also, do the later model rx8s have the same problems?
A: Since the 2004 model was the first year for the RX8 it did have more problems then following years. This is normal as first model years usually have a few bugs that get worked out.
That being said, any early production problems would likely have already shown up in this car and already have been fixed. Just make sure all the recalls for the car have been completed.
And Mazda upgraded the warranty on the motor to 8 years or 100,000 miles, so you should be covered.

Q: should i get a Mitsubishi 3000GT or a Mazda RX8?
i have the money to get either
what would you choose?
A: Those are 2 very different vehicles. The Mitsu is a much older vehicle. The base 3.0 non-turbo vehicle is a bit of a dog actually as the 3000 is a pretty heavy vehicle. The twin-turbo though is a quick car.
The RX8 is a newer vehicle. It's also more unique ( it has the rear doors and it is powered by a Wankel rotary engine ).
I would go for the Mazda myself. Again, it's the newer vehicle and rotary engines are quite unique. They are incredibly smooth to drive.
Q: How do you like your Mazda RX8?
I was thinking of buying one earlier this summer, but instead went for the G35 coupe...
I am wondering would I have liked the RX8 better...
Anyways, how do you like your RX8?
A: The G35 is a great car and it may have been the right choice for you, based on wants & needs at the time.
The G35 is a luxury car with a powerful engine and very good handling. The RX8 is a lightweight sport coupe/sedan with excellent handling, though not as much power.
The RX8 is like a Scalpel, light, highly maneuverable, quick, and deadly accurate in carving up the corners. The Renesis Rotary screams like a Tasmanian devil on crack.
The G35 is much heavier and has a more brutish engine. It's more like a Hammer in the performance view. It gets the job done, just differently.
I love my 8. It's comfortable when I just need to drive, but hellish fun when I feel the 'need'. I wouldn't mind a G35 either but wouldn't be able to push it as hard in the handling department.
Q: What is the silver curse when it comes to mazda rx8's?
Im looking into buying one cause they're friggin sweet but i keep hearing abot this silver curse? what is it?
A: The "Silver Curse" is the higher chance of the car being involved in an accident. It's a phrase started on the RX8Club.com forums.
It was noticed that far more silvers were involved in auto accidents than any other color. There's 2 reasons for this. First, silver is a very popular color, so there are more of them. Second, silver is harder to see at dawn and dusk as it blends in more so there is a higher chance of it not being seen as early.
If you own a silver learn defensive driving techniques and use your lights to be seen... or get a Canadian daytime running light module installed.
Q: What is better to get for my mazda rx8 a turbo or a supercharger?
A: Either choice is good depending on how you want to change the engine characteristics.
Turbo's can give the Renesis more overall HP and torque, but the power will be "peaky". You will gain little in the lower RPM band, have a huge spike of power in the middle band, and then die off around 6500 - 7000 RPM. This is because the turbo won't respond and give any appreciable boost until 3K - 4K RPM...completely normal for a turbo. Then the turbo will be able to create large airflow, but only up to perhaps 6K RPM where it will be producing its maximum flow. Then power drops off as you have the same airmass but the higher RPM's mean less shared air available per combustion cycle.
This is too bad as the motor runs to 9K+ RPM and the tertiary intake ports don't even open until 7200 RPM.
You can get turbo's that can flow enough air to allow proper chamber filling at the higher RPM's, but they'll take longer to respond and boost may not appear until 5-6K RPM.
The superchargers designed for the RX8 have been designed with the extended RPM range of the Renesis in mind. You'll have a better low end as they produce boost all the time, just not as much low down as it's not spinning as fast, and the airflow can keep increasing with RPM right up to 9K. But you won't get as much mid-range power as the turbo as boost & airmass is related to RPM.
So the turbo will give you more total HP, mainly in the middle RPM band and change the way power is delivered. The SC will give a lower overall power increase, but it will be distributed more evenly across the RPM band and the motor's response will feel much the same as now, just with more grunt everywhere.
Q: Where is the automatic transmission fluid dipstick on 07 mazda rx8?
A: The answer is in your owners manual...
